So your home computer repair problem seems very overwhelming. Do not worry! Take everything in stride. 1. DO NOT Delete, Just Rename!

Most virus scanners and spyware scanners have an option for deleting a file. While doing your home computer repair, remember that renaming a POSSIBLY harmful file is a lot better than just removing it, for safety reasons. It might be a normal file that is not a virus so renaming it from example.exe to example-bak.exe allows you the ability to restore it if in case you need it later.

2. DO NOT Run Scans Without System Restore!

While doing home computer repair, do not run virus or spyware scans without ensuring that your system has a solid restore point that you can restore to if something goes wrong. DO NOT remove, quarantine, or delete anything without a system restore point set. Remember, check to make sure the date of the system is the correct date also!

3. DO NOT Make Multiple Changes With out Restarting!

Always when doing home computer repair, restart your computer as much as possible. After every major change, a virus scan, removing a program, and even a registry change, restart your computer afterwards.

The reason for this is so that we may determine the exact problem that caused your home computer to need repair to begin with. Also you want to pinpoint what could have been a harmful change if in fact one is made.

I use these guidelines all the time when doing home computer repair and you should also. Remember, a healthy computer is a lot easier to use than a sick, slow one, so do everything you can to keep your computer healthy!

I have been searching for a product to fix my pc errors for good. I have tried many other products that just don’t do the job properly. Why won’t the program recover some of my files?

Restore My Files has been designed to recover the remaining data on your hard disk. However, Restore My Files is not designed to repair the content of deleted files.

A deleted file that is corrupted or partially re-used by the Windows operating system will not be readable. This is not a factor of Restore My Files software, but a factor of how the Windows operating systems will recycle part (or the entire) of deleted files. Restore My Files does recover deleted files that remain intact in your hard disk.

What drives will Restore My Files detect?

Restore My Files will be able to scan any drive shown in the ‘Hard Disk Drives’ section of ‘My Computer’ (except network). This includes:

USB External drives Removable Flash drives ZIP drives Floppy drives

My operating system is gone, can I still recover my files?

Unfortunately, at this point in time, once the operating system is gone, Restore My Files will not be able to perform its task.

However you can try attaching the hard drive in question to another computer as a secondary drive. If the drive is being detected as a volume (c:, d:, e: etc) you may try a ‘Physical Scan’

Physical scan: Scan the whole HDD regardless if the space is allocated or not, formatted or not. This potentially will detect files in un-partitioned space on the HDD.
